1/ Re: Rapid Antigen Tests - Are you confused after today's BC COVID-19 press conference?

Let's take a deeper dive
2/ Firstly, it is important to understand that not everyone infected with COVID-19 is infectious (capable of transmitting to others):

BLUE = Infected
RED = Infectious subset
3/ During the course of an infection, the viral load changes. Most people are infectious for a brief period of time:

Focusing on only one PH measure would be an unforced error

1) Rapid tests. Identify, in 15 min, COVID +ve patients who are capable of spreading the virus

By being able to identify +ve patients quickly they can isolate immediately preventing them from spreading the virus to the community

2) Masks help prevent you from inhaling COVID viral aerosols IF the mask is properly fitted

KN95/N95 masks provide the ideal protection. They form a seal around your mouth and nose

If wearing a surgical mask please make sure you pinch it at your nose so it helps form a seal

Thread: I see some in other provinces talking about #NovaScotia rapid test kits coming home for elementary kids. There’s been comparisons about other places and why Gov’s did or did not do this. A few points about this whole thing we shouldn’t forget 1/ novascotia.ca/news/release/?…
The effort has been spearheaded by some excellent folks who are outside of gov. It started with local university during our 2nd wave that was hitting restaurant/bar crowd in Halifax. They were testing to see if rapid testing could help stop spread. 2/

The success and the leadership of @LisaBarrettID et all. meant that our public health officials could do their thing. But they also stayed out of the way and let community lead the pop ups as they grew. This meant no additional strain on pub resources. /3

Nova Scotia: public health may be a little longer getting in touch with people for the next few days. They are really and truly doing an amazing job but there is some trouble getting everything done quickly right now.
As Nova Scotians, we can help them and each other get this COVID-21 controlled.

Please don’t get frustrated, upset or angry. (Well, you can, it’s been a long year) BUT here are some ways to take control and be proactive!!
We NEED you NOW Nova Scotia!

1. If you have symptoms, don’t wait, not even a day! Get tested at a Nova Scotia Health authority testing site (NOT a pop up site!!). You are NOT putting a strain on the system. You are doing the right thing.
