We’re committing to go full, all-out in building the #PoorPeoplesCampaign: A National Call for Moral Revival in this moment of our national sickness. When we see political and physical insurrection; when we see assaults on the poor and low-wealth;
when we see wide-spread assaults on voting rights and democracy; when we see misinformation campaigns and billions spent to divide us; in this moment, we are committed to mobilizing the largest mass assembly of poor people & low-wage workers in this nation’s history on June 18.

#PoorPeoplesCampaign, investments in universal pre-K, clean energy, child tax credits & childcare wouldn’t be in this framework if we had not pushed & marched & gotten arrested in DC, West Virginia, Arizona. Remember, Manchin wanted to “press pause” on the whole plan this summer.
If it’s in there, it’s because we fought for it! This isn’t everything we need, but it’s evidence that we can change the conversation & win investments in people.
We have to keep fighting for paid family leave & raising care workers to $15/hr, & Dems shouldn’t pass infrastructure unless they are assured in writing that Manchin & Sinema will vote together for BBB, VRA, & For The People Act.

Poor and low-income people accounted for more than a third of all voters overall in the 2020 presidential election, and their turnout was especially strong in tight battleground states, according to a study @UniteThePoor released today.

breachrepairers.org/press-releases…
The study, titled “Waking the Sleeping Giant: Low-Income Voters and the 2020 Elections” also shows that of the 168 million people who voted in 2020, 59 million — 35% — were poor or low-income, meaning they have an estimated annual income of less than $50,000.
The 2020 presidential elections saw the highest voter turnout in U.S. election history, including among low-income voters.

Super storms, because of climate change, are destroying lives.

Refusing to be vaccinated is destroying lives.

Refusing to raise the minimum wage is destroying lives.

Refusing to fully address poverty is destroying lives.

Refusing to protect voting rights is destroying lives.
Refusing to have universal healthcare is destroying lives.

Manchin and Republicans refusing to break the filibuster is destroying lives.

Corporations and the greedy rich getting more and more money while poor and low-wealth people are still not lifted is destroying lives.
The only way out is to embrace a #ThirdReconstruction agenda & build a mass #MoralMovement that seeks love, justice, and truth. An agenda to fully address poverty and low-wealth.

"A posture of repair, or what Rev. William Barber has termed the '#ThirdReconstruction,' reminds us that before we advance—in order to advance—we first need to fix ... the broken stories of domination & dominion that provided the cover stories for this cruelty." @NaomiAKlein

Theologian Walter Brueggemann gave us the language of “prophetic imagination,” and that is what you’ve done with this film. A powerful #MessageFromTheFuture that gives life & hope for another world that is possible when we take seriously our calling to be repairers of the breach.

In the midst of the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, campaigns that court low-income nonvoters by focusing on issues like expanding Medicare and raising wages could build progressive governing power for generations.
In presidential elections, low-income-voter turnout over the past 36 years has consistently been 20 percentage points below that of higher-income voters, according to a new report from the #PoorPeoplesCampaign @UniteThePoor.

Read the report: poorpeoplescampaign.org/resource/power…
The report shows that eligible nonvoters across income brackets in 2016 reported the same top reasons for not voting: They didn’t feel they were represented by the candidates who were running or they did not think their vote would make a difference.
