ICYMI, there's a hidden driver behind the fracking of gas in NE BC & the associated #CoastalGasLink pipeline being pushed through #Wetsuweten territory. It's condensate, a fracking by-product, & the Alberta tar sands need it for diluting bitumen: thenarwhal.ca/the-resource-b… #bcpoli
In that 2018 article on condensate by @BenParfittCCPA in @thenarwhalca, Parfitt points out that mainstream media doesn't cover the key issue of condensate. That's still as true today in 2020 as it was in 2018.

@BenParfittCCPA @thenarwhalca In a thread a month ago I tried to quickly show the intimate link between BC fracking, #CoastalGasLink, #SiteC, #LNGCanada and the #TMX pipeline, but this time I'll focus more on the condensate. #bpcoli #LNGCanada #Wetsuweten #cdnpoli

Unofficial summary of the Federal Court of Appeal’s decision in Coldwater v. Canada (A.G.) re: TMX

#TMX #TransMountain

fca-caf.gc.ca/fca-caf/pdf/Co…
Other tweeps will comment on the substance of the decision, and as I expect that they will note everything I can say and more, I will wait for their analysis.

I will note a few basic procedural points:

1/
This court challenge was the only challenge that could affect the actual approval for TMX itself (the prior FCA decision on the first approval was the only reason construction could not proceed until last year). Any other court challenges will be for smaller stakes.

THREAD: #TransMountain #TMX

With the decision of the second Supreme Court of Canada case about Indigenous Rights and the TransMountain Expansion project being released later this morning, here is a thread talking about this project and how it violates Indigenous Rights. 1/22
Consent has not been obtained for the original pipeline, and many Indigenous Nations have also not given Free, Prior and Informed Consent for the expansion. 2/22 #TransMountain #TMX
Existing pipeline is a huge environmental liability and the expansion is not much better.

Indigenous Nations have a right to say “No”, in order to protect their Land & Way Of Life.

Canada “cannot put the land to uses which would destroy that value”. 3/22

I can only laugh at the hand-wringing coming from #cdnmedia in regards to the #bcpoli announcement today to work with the rights of the Indigenous per the CDN Constitution is a real & constructive way.

But, but, but - what will that mean for "CONSENT"?

#cdnpoli #history
...2/
2. ... Perhaps it will mean the Indigenous will get a real slice of the deal in meaningful ways, developed with mutual respect & understandings.

Most of all, maybe it'll mean no more breaking the arms of FN women when they speak up to those resource corps.

#cdnpoli #bcpoli
The Indigenous have had to give up far, far more than any CDN will ever have to, and yet there are still those who state the Indigenous 'will have to work w/#cdnpoli'.
Ahem, when will the CDNs genuinely work up to their own Constitution & the recognized rights of the Indigenous?

Still think #BigOil is the answer? Consider this:

Before 1886, people travelled via horse and buggy.

In 1858, the refining of #CrudeOil crude oil allowed for larger-scale processing & helped spur the #gas gas engine automobile (this is the first - 1886).

The Model T, produced by @Ford, was the first mass produced vehicle, but not the first auto.

Innovation led to bigger, enclosed cars.

To address the spate of let's call it "interesting" analysis about gas prices in BC from @MarcLeeCCPA a quick thread about the refined fuel situation on the coast and #transmountain's effects on gas prices @keithbaldrey @robynallan #bcpoli #vanpoli @sjmuir @nbennett_biv 1/
As we all know BC uses about 192,000 barrels per day of refined fuel with Prkland providing about 33% of our gas and 30% of the jet fuel. The #Transmountain supplies most of the remaining refined fuel but it cannot supply everything we need #bcpoli #vanpoli
As a consequence we import about 30,000 bpd from the Americans. This number is from the Canadian Fuels Association and is corroborated by the US EIA. According to the EIA #bpoli #vanpoli 3/

Happy #IWD, folks. Today, @jkenney & @Alberta_UCP will to try to tell you they love women, they support women, they defend women. Let’s revisit the short 2 yr history of the party and their action on women’s issues - because we all know that actions speak louder than words #ableg
One: @JasonNixonAB, UCP House Leader fired a woman for speaking up about sexual harassment. Nixon was her boss and he fired her for speaking out. #MeToo
Two: Every single member of the @Alberta_UCP caucus walked out on a historical bill to protect women while they access healthcare. They walked out not once, not twice, not five times, BUT TWELVE TIMES while MLAs debated legislation.

A thread about common myths about the #transmountain:

heavy crude is a fungible commodity and blocking #TMX will do nothing to affect oil demand all it will do is move demand to suppliers with lower environmental standards and higher per barrel GHG emissions #bcpoli #cdnpoli 1/
When activists say it is about protecting the Southern Resident Killer Whales, remember the #NEB was not allowed to consider how the #TMX reduces threats to the SRKWs from the American side of the border achemistinlangley.net/2018/09/01/on-… #bcpoli #transmountain 2/
What does getting the number of tankers in US waters down mean to the SRKWs? It might improve access to feeding grounds by restoring Rosario Strait to their habitat. Currently they avoid that area, likely due to US tankers achemistinlangley.net/2018/09/27/mor… #bcpoli #transmountain 3/

1. The winner, with 356 retweets. What made this one so popular? I’d like to know.
2. Second place is now sitting at 277 retweets. What is it that people find so fascinating? Maybe it’s the realization that there is actually not a lot to worry about here.
