#TodayIdHistory The Battle of the Bulge ends in 1945, as the Allies overcome an intense German offensive in the Ardennes, to stop the Allied use of Antwerp, and split the Allied lines, enabling them to be encircled.
It was one of the largest German attacks on the Western front, with over 410,000 men, 1,400 tanks, 2600 artillery and 1000 combat aircraft. And they also lost close to 98,000 men in what was one of the bloodiest battles of the War.
The Allies too suffered great casualties, with the Americans losing around 89,000, making it one of the bloodiest battle ever fought by US in the War, and the 3rd deadliest one after Normandy and Meuse‚ÄďArgonne offensive in WW1.
