Headed into #Tornillo Detention Facility for children where the govt is expanding to accommodate the influx of kids. The tent city was originally only supposed to hold 450 children, now approx 1500 are there and they can now hold 3800 @NBCLatino
A sample schedule for the children inside #Tornillo - as of today, the govt says there are “1500 unaccompanied alien children” at this tent city - ages 13-17 years old. On average, the kids spend about 25 days here until they can be released to a suitable sponsor
House Rules posted for the children to abide by in #Tornillo - children inside we spoke to had been there from 15-30+ days w/out any idea of when they’ll get out. The girls tent holds over 300 girls - the incident commander called it a “house party,” said it was like “camp”
