I highly suggest #newPI make a grant writing plan each year. Its helpful knowing how to divide and prioritize my effort. Im no expert but wanna share my GRANT strategy.
1. G - gather info
2. R - rank opportunities
3. A - arrange folders
4. N - notify grants office
5. T - try
🧵
1. Gather info. Look into all funding and grant opportunities remotely relevant to your research program. Ask your grants office about opportunities and let them know what you do so they can help you look. Collect the basics like deadlines, parts of the app, eligibility, purpose
2. Rank. I use 3 categories. Perfect match (most energy, feedback and planning goes here) Good match (less effort, recycle material from perfect match). Bad fit or ineligible (discard or only apply if I have free time). Within categories I rank by ratio of effort to money.

#MedStudents, #Residents, #Fellows, and #Research Trainees - I recently had both a resident and fellow ask me how I got involved in research and published when I was a #trainee. I thought I would share my tips and advice in this thread. #MedTwitter #ACGME #MedStudentTwitter
1. Ask yourself👉what you want from this? To pursue research as career? To boost application for #residency #fellowship #employment? To get a recommendation letter? Regardless, aim for #publication (most value). Conference talks are cool, but publications stay on CV forever!
2. Basic science research=⬆️time+lab training vs clinical research. Study designs: RCTs, prospective, retrospective, case reports, review papers. Publishing case reports+review papers are most feasible endeavors during training! Best way to boost #publication numbers.

Nostalgic to be back at Bay Area Aging Meeting #BAAM. Shortly after moving to the Bay, I remember being blown away that this free, local symposium was of the same caliber as a Keystone meeting. Meeting is bigger than ever, as #agingbiology goes mainstream. #creatingtime.
Great talks by students and postdocs from @BrunetLab, @wysscoray lab, @czbiohub, @RobertoZoncu lab, @VilledaLab, and many more. Other than the keynote by @DMSabatini, everything is focused on giving #trainees a chance to present unpublished work.💚
@BrunetLab @wysscoray @czbiohub @RobertoZoncu @VilledaLab @DMSabatini And @calico is finally giving talks, after lurking at our meeting for several years😄 Scott McIsaac talking about their MAD machine for collecting old yeast cells out of a continuously replicating population. They can get millions of cells for genomics assays.

I’m LJ, a UK Respiratory doctor & medical education enthusiast. I’m here to share my experience of creating respnetlondon.com #RespEd #RespisBest #MedEd #FOAMed #PressEdConf19 /1
UK medical doctors in training must navigate a complex landscape of changing accreditation requirements. Vital information is often dispersed across multiple emails & websites e.g. JRCPTB & PGMDE #RespEd #MedEd #PressEdConf19 /2
I built Respnet as a practical way to centralise information, but also to inspire #trainees & create a sense of belonging. Belonging, connection & community are important for motivation, fulfilment & #wellness, & help prevent #burnout. #RespEd #MedEd #PressEdConf19 /3

w/ @Sefini @sloan_kettering, Juan Ramirez @aaas @nahjUPRRP, and @fcoloninFL of Jasperi Consulting and former advisor to US Dept of State
Ramirez shows #NSPNsymposium18 the striking and dramatic impact of the #PuertoRico hurricane, and the impact on services and #infrastructure. Power was a prominent lasting impact. Cellphone signal was out for days, but once back the people got to work 💪
Pix of the student centre & research building at the university @nahjUPRRP soon after the hurricane in #PuertoRico, taken by Ramirez. Just over a year later, the regular semester and the natural beauty of the campus has returned 👏 #NSPNsymposium18

We really put the FUN in dysfunctional - Canada is a relatively small country on a population standpoint, but we are ever smaller if we are divided across provinces - @cdavidnaylor #CSPC2018
+ the majority of dollars in HERD come from universities, not federal. To note, provinces don't contribute much either, though Québec has been a model to follow.
Canada doesn't collaborate well across provincial borders, they work much more with international partners. We have a chance to knit #cdnsci closer together and make our science more national ➡️ we have a chance to realign
