Good morning on Day 4 of the #transitchallenge! I opted not to cross Indian Spring Drive at Colesville Road (see yesterday’s post) and am instead on a @RideOnMCT 9 headed toward Wheaton. The roads are slick; be safe today.
While waiting for the Q2 bus I got to catch up with a buddy who just just graduated from @MCPS Northwood High School and is off to @montgomerycoll in the fall. Congratulations, Rohan!

I do love the ability to get work done while on the Q6 bus. #transitchallenge #headinghome

Mixing it up this evening for my trip to the @TGBChamber annual dinner in the @Pike_District. Taking @RideOnMCT Route 101 express service instead of Metrorail down Rockville Pike from the Rockville station: #TransitChallenge
Just missed the 101 on way over but bumped into @rachelvetica, @montgomerycoll student journalist and transit/ped. advocate. Since the bus comes every 10 minutes, I won’t be late to my event but unfortunately didn’t get much time to catch up. #TransitChallenge @actfortransit
Making good time on @RideOnMCT Route 101 and seeing plenty of passengers accessing Rockville Pike locations that aren’t as accessible from Metro stations. Only thing better would be dedicated lanes! #TransitChallenge @actfortransit

I'm looking forward to doing the #TransitChallenge again next week! Here are some tips from my challenge in March (also see the amazing list from @rachelvetica).

Thank you @actfortransit @Andrew_Friedson @EvanMGlass @willjawando @hansriemer @CaseyAndersonPB @natalifani
Add some extra time to your walking route on your #TransitChallenge because you’re bound to run into constituents who want to talk on your way to/from the bus stop or Metro station. Having a chance to talk with more people is one of the best parts of not driving!
If you’re traveling with young kids, bring along extra clothes and hand wipes. My 3 year old took advantage of our #TransitChallenge to test out the dirt-digging opportunities at bus stops throughout metropolitan DC. Extra clothes and wipes would have come in handy.

Some of our local officials are going to embark on the #transitchallenge next week (hooray!), so here are some (or rather, many) tips. Transit 101 (also, the 101 is a good Ride On route). 🚌🚏🚍🚉🚇🚶‍♂️🚶‍♀️🚲🚴‍♂️🚴‍♀️
🗒️⌚️Preparation: the challenge doesn't start for a few days, so use this time to get familiar with at least some of the routes you'll take and a general idea of when/how often they run (some routes only run M-F). Good route planning goes a long way when using transit.
Timetable information is available online for Ride On and WMATA. I find some of WMATA's online Metrobus timetables incredibly hard to decipher because they list information for multiple routes on the same timetable (looking at you, Q line... aka Q1/Q2/Q4/Q5/Q6)
