#ttrpgHomebrew in today's homebrew cook up, let's look at making dnd more Satanic.
So that maths is wrong, I forgot that 666 is the only triple we want in the result, so it is 1/216, not 6/216
That said, that very mechanic can give you a slightly better dice curve in dnd.

The sum of 3d6 gives you between 3 and 18 on a bell curve. This means you are most likely to roll somewhere around 9ish and least likely to roll 3 or 18.
GURPS uses this as the basic mechanic

This is a fun little #ttrpghomebrew for #dnd that smooshes together FATE and dnd modifiers.

So these d6 have that badass ampersand symbol on two faces. The rest are blank. You roll 4 dice and each ampersand bumps your result up one DC. Image
Take your ability modifier and map it onto the fate ladder like so. Roll the four dice and each symbol bumps you up 1 place.

DCs go up in 1 not 5. Et voila. Image
Why is this cool?

Firstly, no numbers. The players abilities are mapped to words. "I am good at hunting", "I got a great success".

Secondly it is on a curve.

Unlike fate, you only go up- which means the dice show your effort.

One peculiar thing about modern #DnD is ability scores are supposed to be super important, but they get crunched down into modifiers with such a short spread- essentially +1 to +4.
When your stat sways you, usually between -2 and +4- the dice has a hefty swing.

My instinct is to go to modifier only and widen the modifier range to +8
Thoughts?
