#TuitionFees are an active contributor to sustained and deepening socioeconomic inequality — true when they were introduced by @UKLabour in the late 90s, even more so now that they top £9000 a year. Let me explain. 🧵
There are people studying the exact same course as me. They’re in the exact same lectures, the exact same tutorials, reading the exact same core literature. We’re accessing the same teaching resources and facilities.
The only difference? They don’t have a student loan. Their parents have been able to pay £27,750, and likely living costs, too, for them to attend university loan-free. If they’re in the position to do so, do I blame them? Not at all.

A really significant obstacle that self funded students face, is how to pay tuition fees and still have enough to cover living expenses.

There are no easy answers to this obstacle. And the student risks losing his/her studentship if he is unable to make his tuition payments.
Today, I would share a few organisations who provide some sort of loan to fund these study abroad goals.
1. Prodigy Finance: Prodigy Finance provides academic loans that cover tuition fees and living expenses to study in Canada, the UK, and the US.
You can look through their website to see what programs and schools are supported.

Don't know who need to hear this*, but reducing tuition fees for *mostly* online learning might seem like common sense, but in fact it's not...universities can't reduce fees for a host of reasons.

Bit of a #TuitionFees thread.

*Seems to be a lot of people.

N.B. a): 'Tuition Fee' is a misnomer. It pays for academic time and expertise in teaching, but also cleaning and maintenance, administration, the library, tech, some research, widening participation bursaries, MH and other support. And management and marketing.

N.B. b): Expensive to run courses (engineering, medicine etc) are subsidised by 'cheaper' ones (social sciences, arts/humanities). Having lower/variable fees messes this (and access issues) up, as does likely earnings. In short: the £9K+ sticker price is a mess.

Watching the #LibDemLeadership debate on #Sky with @AdamBoulton

I’ve been undecided as each candidate have particular personal qualities that appeal in different circumstances

I think @EdwardJDavey ‘s experience and breadth of understanding is showing

He more credible on “HOW”
@joswinson brings youth and sometimes warmth, humour and a contemporary feel to the debate.

She deals with the issues of electoral cooperation with Pro EU parties better.

BUT the way she responds on the #IndyRef issue unskilfully.
There is no recognition that there’s a difference in outcome for Scotland if we remain in the EU & if we do not.

If we are unsuccessful in stopping Brexit then Scotland, NI & now, I think Wales are being dragged out against their will and to their detriment

We can’t ignore that
