Mostly I have remained quiet about #twitter verification and (what I like to call) Black physician #verifygate.

Partly because I'd like to believe that verification starts with how we feel about ourselves.

But I'll also admit it's a form of self-protection.

You know? Image
2/
I also think of how, historically, there are so many examples of successful people who look like me who do or don't get the metaphorical blue check for their work.

So you say the thing we always say:

"You don't verify me. My community verifies me."

Right? Right.
3/
But then, if you have enough time, it creeps into your thoughts. And, even if it doesn't really mean anything, you think about it.

You know?

And listen. Since I'm generally not a person who likes to be upset, I will instead shape this into a case.

Okay? Cool.

Happy New Years Eve

I'm so grateful to all my followers (except if you follow to hate on psychiatry, boo you). This has been a trying year but I enjoy so many aspects of the #twitterverse, especially within #medtwitter, and the opportunity for me to grow and learn. /1
I wanted to thank a few people very specifically, because they changed my life. @uche_blackstock invited me into a mentor zoom chat, where I met and connected with @gboladi, who went on to become the national chair of the @bmsacanada with support from @doctorsofbc. /2
So thank you Dr. Blackstock for helping me move from "acknowledging" inequity into doing something about it. /3

1/ While I was high school, my bias solidified away from science and toward technology. I wasn't aware of it at the time but my unconscious decision may have been largely based on the fact that while the basis of science, those immutable laws of the universe, will...
2/ ...be forever argued in the #DunningKruger-afflicted minds of the uneducated, put a computer in front of somebody and they suddenly have the same power as any world-renowned #ClimateChange scientist.
3/. I have a lot of sympathy for the hardworking @KHayhoe 's and @MichaelEMann's of the world. Because while they are forever reminding the #Twitterverse of what has been known for centuries, the average conspiracy hack has at his or her fingertips computing power...

Very excited to share my work on Stag2, chromatin architecture, and effects on hematopoiesis! Join me in a @MedTweetorials of why this is so important! @CellStemCell cell.com/cell-stem-cell…
The cohesin complex is comprised of structural proteins (Smc1a, Smc3, Rad21) bound to a Stag protein. We and others have described that alterations of each affect hematopoietic self-renewal and differentiation.
However, both the mechanism and the biologic reason for the overwhelming prevalence of STAG2 being overwhelmingly the most commonly mutated component in cancer was still not known.

Just in time for lunch... Happy Friday, #twitterverse! One more lesson before school lets out for summer: James Beard-nominated chef Ronnie Killen (@ze1chef) from @killensbbq has the *most necessary* tips for the perfect brisket. Stay tuned… #Houston
TIP #1 from @ze1chef: “Source good product, don’t mess it up.” Simply, great barbecue begins with sourcing great cuts of meat. Worry less about marbling and instead seek out meat with a light pink hue, which means the cattle ate quality feed, which will yield a tastier result.
TIP #2 from @ze1chef: A thick fat cap will provide big flavor, but pros know to trim brisket a bit to create a streamlined, aerodynamic shape. This ensures that smoke will waft evenly over the meat and no parts become overly smoky. #BBQ

It's always an exciting experience to be part of a #Zimbabwean #Wedding.

Recently @tapsmadondo's sister tied the knot at Fern hill Estate which I had the privilege of shooting

Picture Thread:

Mrs K's #wedding theme centred around her favourite colour. From the bridesmaids dresses to even the colour of her dress up room.

Attention was paid to detail to make sure the fairytale wedding would come to life:

Comical groom removed his glasses so that he could make sure his eyes weren't playing tricks on him when he was told to kiss the bride.

The bridal team showcased a good energy in their shoot and on the dance floor
