Can Texas turn blue in 2020? The writer thinks so and so do I.

Ted Cruz won his last election, but saw a 13 point margin drop from his first election to 2018. That's a 13 point pro-Democratic shift. Other seats flipped. #SundayThoughts #TurnTexasBlue 1/7

Support and volunteer for @mjhegar - an amazing Democratic candidate running to replace John Cornyn in the U.S. Senate.

To paraphrase, "Texans deserve a Senator who represents their values: strength, courage, independence."
That's not Cornyn. #txlege 3/7

THREAD: Congressman @WillHurd's surprise announcement yesterday that he will not be seeking reelection in #TX23 sheds light particularly on two of several points here:

Hurd is the only Black Republican member of Congress, and the Republican Party under Trump is not becoming more
@WillHurd diverse, or inclusive, or representative of Texas values, and for that matter, American values. This also signals that Texas values are breaking through today and the Republican Party is seeing the writing on the walls.
@WillHurd #Texas is one of 5 majority-minority states, which means that the majority of Texans are people of color. The majority of Texans are women, and 350,000 Texans turn 18 every year — that is over 1 million Texans in just three years who are becoming legal adults.

HOLY CRAP! One of just three House Republicans who holds a Hillary Clinton district announced he won't run again in 2020. This is about the worst possible retirement for House Republicans
Retiring #TX23 Rep. Will Hurd is also one of many Republicans who owes his entire congressional career to gerrymandering, having barely won in 2014, 2016, & 2018 thanks to a racial gerrymander that SCOTUS let the GOP get away with
Texas could be a bloodbath for Republicans in 2020. Democrats could flip several more House seats, there's a 2020 Senate election, four critical state Supreme Court elections, & Democrats could flip the state House in time to stop a post-2020 GOP congressional gerrymander

NEW 💻 AD: We just launched our largest voter contact ad of the 2020 election cycle to date -- a Spanish-language digital ad exposing Rep. @WillHurd’s failure to stand up for migrant children who were left behind in a Texas detention facility van. #TX23
cbsnews.com/news/democrats…
Our ad reads: “¿Por qué el Congresista Hurd no ha abogado por los niños inmigrantes que han sido abandonados en camionetas?”

Translation: “Why hasn't Congressman Will Hurd spoken up for immigrant children left in vans?”
Earlier this month, a botched effort by the Trump administration left 37 migrant children in a van “under the blistering Texas sun” -- most for at least 23 hours.

Rep. @WillHurd failed to convince his party to take action against these kinds of abuses.

Whoa: TLC calculates Beto O'Rourke won a 76-74 majority of Texas state House districts, giving Dems a clear path to flipping the 9 seats they need for a majority. This is the most crucial chamber up in 2020 for congressional redistricting (h/t @trowaman) texastribune.org/2019/02/25/whe…
It almost blew up in their faces with several races only narrowly going GOP, but Texas' congressional gerrymander was a major boost to GOP in 2018. Under a nonpartisan map like this, they'd have likely lost 4 more districts (#TX06, #TX10, #TX23, & #TX25) dailykos.com/stories/2017/7…
Democrats flipping the Texas state House in 2020 & denying the GOP the power to gerrymander again after the census could be worth several congressional seats next decade, more than practically any other state

BREAKING: After flipping FORTY seats from red to blue in 2018, we've officially got our sights set on THIRTY-THREE more -- and we're ready to get to work!

Take a look at our first offensive battlefield of the 2020 cycle:
Our Chair @CheriBustos is keeping her promises and wasting no time by working to expand our Democratic House Majority.
Presidential approval polls in 2020 are shaping up to be a lot like 2008 -- when Democrats continued the blue wave from the midterm. History is on our side, which means Democrats are poised to expand our House Majority even further. fivethirtyeight.com/features/the-2…

🚨MY MASTER THREAD of #Midterm2018 results analysis, including an array of data dives. Will the country chose to repudiate president Trump? Health care instead of the wall? RT & strap in, folks, tonight could be a wild ride. We get the first batch of results at around 6 PM ET.
Turnout has looked unprecedented for weeks now. Indications today that it could even beat these lofty expectations. At this point I think I’d buy for pickups in Tossup sub/urban seats like #TX07 #TX32 and #TX26, but sell in more rural districts that have looked like reaches.

Now that @BetoORourke has almost $40 million fundraised, it's high time he actually put it to use.

He already has a great ground game. Now get on TV and correct the narrative. Take out huge blocks of airtime. Both positive AND negative ads.
There are several Cowboys games that will take place between now and the election. @BetoORourke should drop a ton of ads during those games.

He should focus ads heavily on competitive districts. #TX07. #TX21. #TX31. #TX32. A blitz of Spanish-language ads in #TX23.
Hell, with this kind of money @BetoORourke should be able to rent fleets of buses to go into poor, minority neighborhoods and shuttle people to the polls for free on every day of early voting.

He doesn't need to prioritize anymore. He can do it all. He should do it all.

Q2 Fundraising is over, and Democrats did a great job!

But I was chatting with @ybbkaren and an interesting question came up:

With SO MANY great candidates, how do we decide who needs donations the most? Many are worthy, but our personal funds are not unlimited.
So I came up with an idea for my own list of Dems who need $$$ based upon the following criteria:

*They have won their primary
*They are trying to flip “swing” GOP-held seats (per @CookPolitical ratings)
*They are behind their GOP opponents in “Cash on Hand” (per @OpenSecretsDC)
That’s not to say that other Democrats in swing districts are not worthy. They are. But the following, from a strategic $$$ perspective, might be the best place to donate *for now*.

This is the list of those House candidates, and their donation links, based on that criteria:

🚨 Please share broadly! As usual, the Kochs are dumping tons of money into GOP candidates...especially into *critical swing districts* we need to flip.
