This is what I see when I think of Memorial Day. I was in my early 20s and my boyfriend had just returned to Camp Pendleton from the Iraq War. He and I attended a memorial upon his return. 1/ #memorialday2022 #txcd2

Today as I reflect on the sacrifices that so many men, women and families made for the freedoms that we all enjoy, I am thinking fondly of family and friends who have both served and returned home, and those who made the ultimate sacrifice. 1/ #MemorialDay2022 #txcd2
But my thoughts keep returning to my great-Uncle, my grandmother's brother, Henry Lawless. Uncle Henry was killed during World War II. 2/
Clearly, I did not know Uncle Henry, but my grandmother spoke lovingly about him. She was there the day that the telegram arrived saying he had been killed in action. She was deeply affected by that experience. 3/
