#Ethereum’s problems are caused by constantly optimizing for tokenomics over decentralization, security, and resilience. It looks like the Merge and POS will lead to complete regulatory capture by centralized exchanges & staking platforms, and there’s no way out for them. 🧵👇
So how did they get here? Deciding on a 32 ETH requirement to stake as part of the protocol (in order to lockup supply and maximize tokenomics). That pretty much made POS as centralized as possible, and plus they don’t have the #Bitcoin culture of not your keys, not your coins.
So now you have 66% of validators that need to adhere to OFAC regulations. And the ETH they have deposited to stake can’t be withdrawn because the withdraw functionality wasn’t coded - because tokenomics. 📈

QUESTIONS ANSWERED here about this🧵(thx for all the engagement!)
1) what do u mean by paper #bitcoin?
2) is all leverage bad?
3) why so sure that a leverage-flush reckoning day will come for bitcoin? Gold investors have waited forever.
4) can't traders hedge the risk? (haha, no)
2/ PAPER BITCOIN=a promise by an intermediary, such as an exchange, to deliver real #bitcoin. Unless you hold the private keys, you don't own bitcoin--what you own is a CLAIM to bitcoin (an IOU). Does your intermediary own enuf on-chain bitcoin to make good on all such claims???
3/ The honest truth is that probably no one other than your intermediary itself really knows & many intermediaries are likely running fractional. It is certain that the quantity of paper #bitcoin outstanding > the 18.9m on-chain bitcoins that exist, but by how much is unknowable.

Last week, I co-hosted a @bitcoinmagazine clubhouse on #Bitcoin’s coming #Taproot activation.

Yes, there are differences in opinion. No, this does not resemble debates that have led to past network splits.

A quick thread on current consensus 🧵
2/ First, the context around #Taproot is very different than the debates that resulted in the #BCH blockchain split.

Nearly everyone agrees Taproot is beneficial for #Bitcoin, and there are (so far) no groups with meaningful objections to the proposal.

bitcoinmagazine.com/articles/tapro…
3/ The disagreement is about aligning activation (in code) with project ethos

There are two proposed ways to activate:

LOT = FALSE: Gives miners a year to activate Taproot, then it expires.

LOT = TRUE: Lets users activate Taproot if miners do not upgrade within a year.

1/ FASCINATING few weeks for social media—the migrations away from big platforms by fed-up users has been MASSIVE. Users proved we’re MUCH more powerful in ecosystems than many ppl thought (vaguely reminiscent of #UASF event in #bitcoin).

The b4 vs after venn diagram of the...
2/ ...social platforms & news sources I use has surprisingly little overlap. I’m trying many new platforms (today I happened upon a great Clubhouse chat room on #crypto law w/ @propelforward. Clubhouse is gonna disrupt podcasts in a v big way, IMHO). Follow me if you’re there! 🤠
3/ I don’t plan to leave @Twitter but I’m not wedded to it either. None of us should be! When 40m people sign up for one new platform & 25m for another in just days, you know something big is afoot.

Related, one of my mentors said something v wise:

#bitcoin will hack big tech.

The #UASF was a defining event of #Bitcoin. 2 years later we may forget what the movement looked like early on. It was never a sure thing. Many people were confused & felt powerless in the face of what looked like massive support for a forced protocol change (NYA/#SegWit2x).
In fact many thought that #Bitcoin was over as we knew it. How could anyone (or any group) go up against such an overwhelming amount of hashrate and corporate backing? It looked like an impossible battle. But Bitcoin and Bitcoiners exist for impossible battles. #RememberTheUASF
All revolutionary movements start small. People started to organize & coordinate. Code was written. Memes were made. Hats were manufactured. Momentum started to build. Eventually the #UASF won the day. It was never a sure thing but we were 100% committed and that’s what mattered.

Happy Bitcoin Independence Day!

Today commemorates an important day in the #Bitcoin community where on August 1st, 2017, users decided to claim control over the network. We've compiled a thread of @AaronvanW's coverage on the event dating back to May 2017👇#UASF #No2X
May 24th, 2017 — Spearheaded by @barrysilbert's DCG, over 50 companies signed and published a “Bitcoin Scaling Agreement” on Medium. [It] intends to put an end to Bitcoin’s long-lasting scaling debate.

Whether it actually will is another question.

June 16, 2017 — Bitcoin’s long-lasting scaling debate appeared to be heading toward a climax lately, with two proposals gaining significant traction. At one end... BIP148, a user activated soft fork.. On the other, there’s SegWit2x.

@valkenburgh @BullyEsq @propelforward 1/ Magic?? Back at ya w/ the @TenthAmendment! @valkenburgh @BullyEsq @propelforward @TenthAmendment 2/ ...the UCC? If not, what’s the difference? Big companies in this sector have shown a tendency to seek collectivist solutions for expediency—for short-term convenience. @valkenburgh @BullyEsq @propelforward @TenthAmendment 3/ ...ENABLE the industry w/ welcoming laws, rather than restrictive laws. Competition among states has proven beneficial to us—why should we give that up?? It’s a lot harder to capture all the states than to capture Congress. This is shades of the #UASF debate—what’s good for...
