Good morning! We're back covering the second day of #UBCBoG committee meetings.

Chair Jessie Dusangh opens the meeting with a land acknowledgment.

He welcomes Azim Lalani as the new vice-chair of the committee, and thanks interim VP Finance Karamjeet Heer as this is her last Audit Committee before she leaves for SFU.

#UBCBoG moves onto a presentation about Indigenous students at UBC.
Andrew Parr: this presentation would answer what we're doing to break down the barriers for Indigenous students to access UBC. But also acknowledged ongoing challenges associated with things like housing, cultural change, etc.
Domestic: 8% of UBCO and 3% of UBCV. That number has been "very stubborn" at UBCV — we have focused on moving that number but it hasn't moved a lot.
Provincially, at both campuses, we represent 10% of Indigenous learners.

#UBCBoG Verbal update on the Indian Residential School History and Dialogue Centre.

Szeri: We're negotiating some important agreements that will allow for the appropriate protection and privacy for the data and agreement within the university about affiliation with the library.
Szeri: We also secured approval from Senate to be a Centre. ubyssey.ca/news/irshdc-be…

Turpel-Lafond: Have hosted and engaged with hundreds of visitors, students.
Turpel-Lafond: Had an opportunity to convene dialogue — an important mandate of the centre. The first dialogue was held at the Musqueam with a gathering of Indigenous legal experts from across Canada. "It was a pathbreaking meeting."
