My article on #Maidan massacre in #Ukraine, its cover-up and stonewalled investigation, and its misrepresentation by @nytimes and US architectural company 3D model. #UkraineElection #UkraineElections2019 consortiumnews.com/2019/04/22/the…
Maidan massacre was a watershed event, not only for politics and history of #Ukraine but also for world #Politics generally. This mass killing in downtown Kyiv set the stage for violent overthrow of the pro-#Russian government in Ukraine and a new Cold War between US and #Russia.
Therefore, it is remarkable that five years after this massacre shook the world, no one has been sentenced for any of the Maidan killings. This was the best documented case of mass killing in history, broadcast live on TV & the internet, in presence of thousands of eyewitnesses.

A few thoughts on Zelenskiy's victory in #UkraineElections2019:
1) Personal views on Zelenskiy aside, this is a win for Ukrainian democracy, and therefore for #Ukraine. Poroshenko admits as much.
2) It shows both the people & the state can hold free, fair, competitive elections.
3) It shows the country is much less divided than many believe: over 70% voted for Zelenskiy. Even in 1st round, the old "East vs. West" divide was limited to a few regions.
4) It emphasizes the degree to which Ukrainian voters are not arch-nationalists, but pragmatists.
5) It shows that electoral strategies based upon the old "West vs. East" divide aren't particularly effective. Poroshenko ran on patriotic "Army! Language! Faith!" aimed at the more stereotypically nationalist west. He only won in one western region: Lviv Oblast.

#Russia's state TV moves on from obsessively discussing #UkraineElections2019 to acknowledging that 22.6% of Russians still don't have indoor plumbing and are using outdoor toilets.
Perhaps the answer lies in solving #Russia's own internal problems and crises, instead of meddling in other countries all over the world?
