Common sense seems to have been totally lost on the #Morrison government. Who in their right mind sends a letter to a family 2 days before #Christmas to say your visa is denied? Morrison and Dutton just have to kick you when your down... to make sure you stay there! #auspol
A mother and her children have been told to go home, back to the US after making #Allora Queensland their home for 7 years... and the decision is based purely on an administrative matter... not because their found to be unfit for residency. #heartless #morrison #auspol
#HomeToBilo was what we thought to be an exceptional case... but #KeepThemInAllora needs to be another version. #auspol

Some brief thoughts on @DrPJWilliams' recent @UnbelievableJB debate with @BartEhrman.

I've listened to the debate two times now, and found it to be quite fascinating. Both debate partners were eloquent and their differences were clearly laid out.
• On methodological approaches:

Ehrman took Pete to task on the issue of theological presuppositions. The issue is the question of ultimate authorities. On what basis should the Scriptures be believed? If they are from God, then they ought to be trusted on their own authority.
Modern critical scholarship attempts to do history with documents that purport to come from God, yet in the name of objectivity, tries to ignore this epistemological elephant in the room. It's worth quoting at length the Westminster Standards on this point.

1/ We’re thrilled @ProPublica with the positive response to @Netflix’s #Unbelievable. The show is sparking important conversations, like this @TheAtlantic piece:
But we’ve also seen some sentiment online that concerns us.
I'd like to talk about that.
@propublica @netflix @TheAtlantic 2/ We've seen things like: Why didn’t the foster moms apologize? (They did.) That Marie must hate everyone who doubted her. (She doesn’t.) And that the police probably didn’t learn a thing from this. (They did.)
@propublica @netflix @TheAtlantic 3/ First let's talk about Marie's foster moms:

In @Netflix's #Unbelievable, Marie is a teen who reports being raped.
I was one of the reporters who first told Marie’s full story.
To me, Marie is not a character. She is someone who trusted me with her story, painful as it was.
Here are Marie’s and my thoughts on the show:
@netflix 2/ In the show’s 1st episode, Marie, after reporting her rape, goes to the hospital for an exam.
In the scene, we learn how many swabs are taken. Where they're taken from. And what Marie is told after—that she might start thinking of killing herself.
Each detail is accurate.
@netflix 3/ I know, because I've read the real-life medical report. The scene is clinical, unadorned...and powerful.
Susannah Grant, the series' showrunner, wanted to capture how an investigation can become its own form of trauma. To do that, she let the facts speak for themselves.

#Unbelievable on Netflix is a mirror to the horrifying reality of many victims of sexual assault and what happens when they report. I hope it opens the eyes of viewers to their experiences and fuels a hard look at a criminal justice system fails them— more often than not.
Also, survivors, please take care of yourself and know that this series may be triggering for you.

#Unbelievable Ethiopia’s maverick PM Abiy Ahmed claims that in the future Somalia, Eritrea and Ethiopia will have a single President.…
This is not the first time PM Abiy Ahmed has made it clear his objective of merging Somalia and Ethiopia. Despite silence from FGS, it’s abundantly clear what’s being followed is a political integration through economic integration model.
Not withstanding the controversial nature of such development, idea of economic/political integration with Ethiopia seems to enjoy a considerable support among Somali elites. In a recent interview, ex president Hassan Shiekh endorsed the idea in no uncertain terms
