Beautiful floral sculptures now stand in Ascarate Park in dedication to the lives lost in a horrid white supremacist attack 1 yr ago.

In that park we hosted #ElPasoFirme, an event where we brought our πŸ’•, voices, & art to El Paso from across the country.

On that day we joined the El Paso community in taking a firm, collective step - el paso firme - to confront, to expose, and to reject the white supremacy that has infected our country.

Today we continue to stand strong alongside the folks of El Paso in their resilience.
Because no wall or cage can restrain a song. Because compassion & solidarity are a universal language which knows no borders. Because together, we have the power to alleviate pain, #UnmaskHate, & confront injustice.
Our hearts are with the El Paso community today.✊🏾 #ElPasoStrong

You may have seen ICE’s weekly #FridayFive propaganda. Today, help share a #FridayFive of our own – to expose the government officials colluding with hate groups and to fight the fascism creeping in our neighborhoods. #AbolishICE #ICEoutofCA #UnmaskHate #AltoSheriff

Yesterday, after the 287(g) vote in Tarrant County, TX,
RAICES organizers & community members were pushed & shoved out of the court room by police amidst a pandemic.

This is a perfect example of how the police favors aggression over public safety. #DefundThePolice #UnmaskHate
We were there in an effort to make people's voices heard on the harm & fear police & ICE collaboration can cause.

& while the community showed tremendous resilience after the vote to continue 287(g), this incident shows exactly why our communities can't trust law enforcement.
This is just a glimpse of why we can't trust the police with black lives & we cannot trust them to interact with immigrant communities, as is evident in their mocking of the pandemic & our concerns for public safety.

This is exactly why we need to #AbolishICE & #DefundPolice

In the midst of everything that is happening, many county officials are voting on whether or not to keep their collaboration between ICE & the police through their 287g agreements.

In Tarrant County, Texas that vote is happening tomorrow.
#End287g #ICEoutofTarrant
Texas is a carceral and anti-immigrant state & for far too long, Sheriffs have played a role in enforcing unjust laws that criminalize black and brown people in our communities.

This isn't anything new. It's been happening since the very beginning of our country's history.
Quick History: Law enforcement originated from slave patrols. Their job was to protect the property of business owners and the safety of white people.

THIS HAS NOT CHANGED & today we see officers continue to serve white supremacy, and not the safety of ALL of our communities
