Calling ourselves #American is privileged language. UnitedStatesians is probably the correct term, but it's 6 syllables long. Getting "Americans" who mostly went to public schools to adopt the habit of saying #UnitedStatesians is not going to happen.
So, should we replace UnitedStatesians with something that fits in the mouth better? #USians is too close to #Asians. Spell check doesn't like it, and it might be cultural appropriation.
Don't say #USians or #UnitedStatesians
I suggest #US'er or #US_er It could be shortened to #USer, pronounced like "U.S. - her" but drop the "h" sound. Just imagine Bernie saying it.
