I continued our #Back2School tour in Scranton today. @sftlocal1147 organized two different community events.
At the first event, we gave out books and school supplies, children had face painting and games. The joy for #BAck2School was clear.
I especially loved that both events had vaccine clinics. Free vaccines and information on the vaccines for parents and eligible students. #VaccinesAreSafe

But look at all these terrible deaths on #VAERS, #TuckerCarlson says? Not so fast! Look at the disclaimer, first. Just because it was reported does not mean #vaccines were the cause!
First of all, let's emphasize that #VAERS is a useful tool, but not for folks looking to confirm their worst fears about #vaccines. It's mostly for the nerds in public health to detect super, super, super rare side effects as early as possible.

Public Service Announcement: #CovidVaccines will not cause blood clotting disorders

Shocking, I know. You can pretty much stop reading now, but below are a few utterly pointless tweets refuting some utterly pointless scaremongering
There’s another ‘open letter’ circulating. I wasn’t going to address it and give it oxygen, but @BallouxFrancois convinced me it was worth it. Not linking it though. It’s pseudo-intellectual drivel in 7 points, with a grating repetition of ‘if such evidence is not available...’
Point 1 is about ‘gene-based’ vaccines leaking into the bloodstream and getting incorporated into random endothelial cells. They refer to a paper specifically on mRNA vaccines, so this is apparently what they’re primarily worried about

Discussing the architecture of conversations with vaccine-hesitant parents with @SeanOLearyMD this morning. @Alchapaap #AAP19
#Vaccine hesitancy is a spectrum: most are “happy vaccinators”, some have concerns, a small # desire alternative schedule, very few absolute refusers.

Start with triage: if they are outright refusers (trying to convince YOU that vaccines are bad), you are unlikely to help them.
“Costs” are Vacccine Hesitancy: 84% of pediatricians think it is more painful to bring kids back repetitively for a “spread out schedule” increases a child’s fear which potentiates pain.

Under-reported in the coverage of vaccine legislation at #mnleg: Sen @drscottjensen’s harmful & wasteful amendment to the Senate’s HHS omnibus bill - senate.mn/chamber/amendm…

For a party who talks A LOT about government waste it is beyond peculiar to spend money on a workgroup to study giving vaccines unbundled or to adjust the schedule, “based on patient circumstances & conditions” – when the science on these questions is solid & definitive
As there seems to be some confusion of the facts - I would refer my medical colleague to the approved @CDCgov schedule - cdc.gov/vaccines/sched… which is developed by ACIP & approved by the @AmerAcadPeds , @aafp & @acog
