Thanks to whoever is running the @NMAAHC for deleting the previous tweet in this thread celebrating Black participation in the Trail of Tears. Here is another one in need of deletion, but the whole thread REALLY needs to be re-thought. #VetransDay2019
We cannot celebrate American empire in any form. With the exception of the Civil War, America does not have a single war that Black people should openly be celebrating their participation in. I'm happy to go war by war if anyone is interested but this should be pretty clear.
While the anti-war movement is often stereotyped as a white hippie thing, Black people have consistently been the most ardent anti-imperialists and callers for peace that this country has ever had. That is a #VeteransDay legacy to be proud of. All else was survival.
