Many have been writing about "ordinary Russians" and that the #visaban is bad. So far, I have not seen a survey where less than 70% would NOT support the war. For example, a Russian volunteer in AFU states that 90% of his surrounding supports the invasion. /2
If we use a very simplistic calculation, the majority of the people that will come to Europe are those who support the war. A week ago, I saw a Russian man dressed in Soviet and Russian symbolics in Warsaw airport. I am afraid he is one of that 70-90 % that support the war. /3

EU Foreign Ministers meeting in Prague stopped short of agreeing to implement a #visaban on Russian tourists.
Instead they cancelled the 'Visa Facilitation Agreement' with #Russia that had been in place since 2006.

The visa facilitation agreement was a way the EU made it EASIER for Russians, including tourists, to get Schengen short stay Type C Visas. It reduced or eliminated their costs & speeded up processing or reduced requirements for certain kinds of visitors.

1/6 Da ich immer wieder gefragt werde, hier nochmal meine Haltung zur Debatte um den #visabanforrussians. Mich machen die Bilder von in der EU urlaubenden Russinnen und Russen auch wütend. Ich lasse mich aber vor allem von einem Ziel leiten:
das freie Europa muss Zufluchtsort für diejenigen Russinnen und Russen sein, die den Krieg nicht unterstützen und Putins Diktatur nicht hinnehmen wollen. Und zwar unbürokratisch+schnell. Die 🇩🇪 Regelung für humanitäre Visa steht ja immer noch aus. 2/6
Dennoch müssen und können wir etwas tun. Und zwar abgestimmt und geeint in der EU und im Schengenraum. Hier ein paar Vorschläge, die effektiv helfen. 3/6

More broadly, I believe such simplistic claims made against a ban are emotional reactions, refusals to recognise that some Russian nationals may present security risks, and a broader refusal to adapt to the reality that our continent is at war.
