Unsolicited advice from a neurosurgeon.

Putting a drain in a newborn's brain after a brain bleed makes everyone sad, and a permanent neurologic deficit or unnecessary death is even worse. Please don't refuse the Vitamin K shot for your newborn.
#vitaminK
Vitamin K is natural and is needed by all people for their blood to clot. In utero, babies don't have enough and Vitamin K doesn't cross the placenta, so newborns are deficient. Most will be ok, but a portion of newborns will bleed and even die if they aren't given Vitamin K.
Vitamin K is a safe intervention that saves a significant number of babies from death or disability. It also keeps your friendly neighborhood neurosurgeon happy. Carry on.
