Boom!

Apple acquires @laserlikeapp the AI based “Interest Engine”. These former Google engineers built an astounding app.

An acquisition that is very important for Apple, Siri and SiriOS.

Context is everything in the next step of the #VoiceFirst revolution.

cc @reneritchie
I worked with the @Laserlike APK quite a bit in 2018. There are many elements that can tie Siri Shortcuts and Laserlike together.

Folks who work with me, VCs and others to tried it out last year. The APK is still working. Give it a try before it is gone:

There are many elements from the @Laserliek app that will translate to SiriOS. The user interface can be voice to text allowing for the Interest Engine to use differential privacy on your iOS devices yet still know much more about your context, thereby giving better results.

It's time for my 2018 #design recap! Less writing, more @ideaplatz speaking and podcasts, and a job transition to boot. I expanded my public talks to include not just VUI but conversational UI, artificial intelligence, and improv for creativity. Here's my year... 1/
My first 2018 post was aimed at #VUI #design job seekers. Rather than reply to a series of 1:1 inquiries, I look for patterns to inspire published pieces. A VERY common question: "Any tips for my Amazon/Google/etc voice design interview?" #voiceFirst medium.com/@muppetaphrodi… 2/
In February 2018, I had the honor (+challenge!) of following @MrAlanCooper on the #Ixd18 mainstage. In my early days on the #EchoLook, I daydreamed about speaking to @ixdconf attendees about that product #design process. A literal #ux dream come true. 3/ vimeo.com/254533851

Undercurrent #1 from @VoiceSummitAI #voice18 - what most people get wrong about "voice" is that it's not a single technology, but many, that come together to create a new conversational experience. The vocabulary, and hashtags are nascent. #voicefirst #voicetech #vui #vux
Undercurrent #2 from @VoiceSummitAI #voice18 - Why are there are a lot of old school #SEO people here? Because they have done this before. The #voice opportunity will have similar organizational, tech, design, product, and mkg challenges as Web 1.0, search, social & mobile.
Undercurrent #3 at @VoiceSummitAI #voice18 - Venue is @njit, a public research university in Newark known for being #1 in upward mobility. Surprise! @thedavedev Chief Evangelist for #Alexa at @Amazon, is an alum! Why is this impt? Voicetech jobs are abt to be high in demand.

With all due respect to the design studio involved, this entire article highlights so many issues with the current state of digital design. The first being the viewpoint that Amazon needs “fixing” and that designers know better and are the ones to do it.
There isn’t an industry out there that isn’t afraid of Amazon, 100 million people are Prime subscribers, and they account for almost half of all ecommerce spend, but it needs “fixing” because the website isn’t pretty.
“Amazon is woefully lacking when it comes to user-centered design.” Tens of millions of people literally speak to Amazon Alexa everyday. #VoiceFirst is the essence of user-centered interaction, and Amazon has more open jobs for Alexa alone than all of Google has right now.
