Sunday Thoughts continued.

The first ten amendments to the US Constitution (the Bill of Rights) were amendments that the States demanded in exchange for their support for the ratification of the Constitution in the late 1780s. 1/6 Image
The Second Amendment was demanded by the rich slave owners of the southern states. These slave owners were terrified of slave uprisings and they wanted local militias at the ready to quell any uprisings. 2/6
But the very same rich slave owners were distrustful of poor whites, so the word “well regulated militias” were part of the Second Amendment to make sure that poor white people couldn’t just form their own militias. 3/6

Where do the Republicans want to take us?
Let's step back a bit.
In 1932, the country elected FDR as POTUS. He promised to create federal government programs to end the Great Depression. Within 100 days, he signed the New Deal into law, creating 42 new agencies over time. /2
They were designed to create jobs, allow unionization, and provide unemployment insurance. Many of these programs still exist. They aim to help safeguard the economy and prevent another depression.
Which New Deal programs still exist? /3
The FDIC , The FNMA , The SEC, The FHA, and the FCC. The Soil Conservation Service remains as the Natural Resources Conservation Service.
Perhaps the most notable New Deal program still in effect is the national old-age pension system created by the Social Security Act (1935)!!!
