Just going to say that if @WASenDemocrats & @WAHouseDems let public ed suffer & decline thanks to a lack of action by #waleg - and as a direct result of actions BY #waleg via #McCleary - they won't be a majority for much longer. Look at AZ, TX, UT, ID as examples. #waedu
#waleg CAUSED the problem in public ed. YOU need to fix it. I'm sure as hell not going to be out knocking on doors & calling potential voters & sign waving like I've done before for anyone in @WAHouseDems or @WaSenate otherwise. Besides, I'll be too busy with my supersized class.
Let's look at a some of the issues #waleg caused with its #McCleary "fix". Start with the staff salary mix. Here's how that impacts Ellensburg.

The real reason for the attack on libraries dailykos.com/stories/2022/1… This "has always been about keeping people uneducated and ignorant. Suppressing diverse ideas has always been the hallmark of conservatism, and free libraries stand in the way of their goal."

Republicans Want Teachers to Leave Public Education laprogressive.com/education-refo… Republicans are literally running a political platform on weakening teachers, schools and education because they need the poorly educated to make up their voting base.
1/ DeSantis, conservatives score more Florida school board wins politi.co/3Eg5YXN Moms for Liberty endorsed 12 for Florida school board and donated to campaigns. The 1776 PAC, which opposes critical race theory in schools, endorsed 49 candidates throughout 21 counties.
2/ Parental rights have been a key battle cry for DeSantis who pushed Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” law, aka “Parental Rights in Education”.
Together with "School Choice" laws promoting charter schools, DeSantis is dictating what kids can learn, and where they can learn it. Image

1/ For those who haven’t been neck deep in #schoolchoice debates for two decades let me walk you through the evolution of this argument about outcomes—it was driven by #voucher research.

Early 1990s: #schoolchoice is a rising tide that lifts all academic boats!
2/
1990s cont’d: #vouchers seem to look pretty cool: Cecilia Rouse’s dissertation finds positive test score effects in Milwaukee’s pilot program and so do Jay Greene and Paul Peterson (well, uh, no shock there 🙄)
3/
2002-04: Maybe not. Peterson-led work finds + effects of a small privately #voucher program, but then Alan Krueger shows they were highly, ahem, sensitive to model/sample choice. (Who are *you* picking as your starting research QB: Peterson or Krueger?)

This piece is fine for what it is. What it and others are understating or flat out missing is the link between religious fanaticism and anti-democratic anti-election white supremacism in the school #privatization push

To give serious space to people like DeAngelis (a ~30 yo lobbyist-w/PhD) to give “thoughts” is appropriate for what the #vouchers movement is but to quote him intellectually rather than a political actor misses the role rightwing think-tanks have played in election denialism
3/
It’s esp problematic given the only real offset to #DeVos/DeAngelis is Mann himself who’s been dead since 1859 and isn’t even directly quoted at that.

Thread: As @annymoliva explains, the Supreme Court’s decision ending the #EvictionMoratorium is devastating for millions of families. Here’s more about the federal investment needed to make sure we don’t repeat the same mistakes next time.
The impending #eviction crisis was avoidable. Rigorous research shows that #housing vouchers are highly effective at reducing #homelessness, housing instability, and overcrowding and at improving other outcomes for families and children. cbpp.org/research/housi…
Yet 3-in-4 households who qualify for rental assistance don't receive any because of limited funding. And the lucky families that do get a #housing voucher had to wait over two years on average. cbpp.org/research/housi…

I receive many questions regarding various financial dealings & their Islamic Rulings especially in light of my Master's connection to Liquidity Management & my PhD's connection to Risk management. I will answer these questions in this thread IA. #invest #money #Islam #Banking
#Options- Impermissible- as any transaction with ambiguous outcomes due to betting on the likelihood of a future event, and considered to be a 'zero-sum' transaction, in which one party can only financially benefit from the trade; are impermissible in Islam.
In terms of a zero-sum transaction, the above tweet should read: "in which one party can only financially benefit from the trade at the expense of the counter-party".
