Update: hearing from LOTS more parents on another platform that their kids have fever & cough post #Hoco2022. Sev have tested + for #Influenza A. If your kids aged 6m & up haven’t had a #FluShot, get it done. We don’t need more home/school/work disruption. 😷 + #WashHands.
Update #2: Posted about this in a high school parent group text as well, & now everyone I know is texting me this morning that their kid also tested pos for influenza A. There are prescription meds to both treat & prevent (if exposed) flu, so see a dr. #HoCoMD #Homecoming

1/ The first thing to say is that if someone has #COVID19 symptoms (#Omicron most common: nasal congestion/runny nose, scratchy sore throat, fever, & aches), you have to assume they have it. You may not have a test (urgent cares are still open & do) or they may still be neg.
2/ You, as the person exposed to the one with symptoms, have to assume that you both do & don’t have #Omicron too. Wait, what? 🤔
I mean: assume you could infect others now & take care to avoid exposing them, BUT don’t assume it’s too late for you to avoid getting it.

Not sure about everyone else, but I can feel the case counts rising all around me. Many more people I know are being exposed to #COVID19 or are testing positive themselves. This is probably in part due to changes in the weather in the Northern Hemisphere. This means that if (1/n)
you thought that your actions were keeping you safe before, you have to do more to keep yourself safe now. The case counts are indeed rising, which means that every single interaction that you have now is riskier than it was just a few weeks ago. The pandemic is worse now. (2/n)
Thanks to "Changing Baselines Syndrome" (@voxdotcom: vox.com/energy-and-env…), we aren't noticing how horrific our situation in the United States is becoming. Everyone is distracted by the presidential transition, the advent of new vaccines, and, just the holiday season. (3/n)

There is a disconnection between the society, people leading responses, and those taking decisions on how to utilize the limited resources we do have. Some practical lessons from Ebola is that when communities were allowed to be part of the responses, the death rate reduced!
In Kailahun District, for example, an intense initial outbreak was reduced to a trickle of cases by local responders organizing quarantine and burial with improvised resources. That cases then declined without outside help implied either that the disease burnt out more readily ..
