Take it back to ‘64, moving to the right isn’t exclusive to fiscal policy, it’s a function of the White electorate (on both the L and R) continually seeking to distinguish itself from the multicultural coalition that built the civil rights movement & has kept it going ever since.

Every fiscal policy and trade agreement tied to the alt-left’s “center right neoliberalism ruined everything” thesis was implemented on the strength of the White voting majority’s unwillingness to extend the American dream & equal rights to women, gays, POC, the sick & the poor.
Be wary of folk who caution against alleged “infighting” within the Democratic Party like its apparatus wasn’t just hijacked and ratfucked by “Independent” insurgents in 2016. Mistaking saboteurs for allies for the sake of optical unity isn’t prudent, it’s political suicide.
These people aren’t even registered fucking Democrats, nor do they understand the most basic civil rights tenets of the party platform. The absolute LAST thing the party base is gonna do is let them strong arm us into assuming a new identity in order to chase after White bigots.
You can’t be willing to compromise on civil/human rights and still call yourself a Democrat. That’s not how any of this shit works and the folk who still wanna try it so damn hard while fascism and apartheid are afoot can’t be trusted. Run tell that.
