The #SpyCopsInquiry resumes with an opening statement from Phillippa Kaufmann QC, representing 'Category H Core Participants' (Individuals in Relationships with Undercover Officers)
It's clear that in the era examined 1973-82, numerous #SpyCops had sexual relationships with women - those they spied on & those they came into contact with socially while undercover.
We were told it was infrequent, but the documents now give a different picture. 8 officers in 5 years. HN300 & perhaps HN67 had children with women they'd spied on.
The current #SpyCopsInquiry hearings run for 3 weeks, focusing on 1973-82. Today will begin at 10am with a minute's silence for #StephenLawrenceDay, after which we'll hear opening statements from:

The first 3 days are 'opening statements' which will be live streamed. From Monday, the #SpyCopsInquiry will take evidence from witnesses & it refuses to live stream these. Instead there will be an eye-straining live transcript, & for people in England & Wales a live audio stream
Today's hearing runs 10-4.15. Opening statements are from David Barr QC, Counsel to the Inquiry, who'll be introducing the new hearings. This afternoon we'll hear from Peter Skelton QC representing the Metropolitan Police Commissioner, & Oliver Sanders QC representing #SpyCops.
#SpyCops who deceived women they spied on into relationships inflicted the most complete invasion of privacy that it is possible for the state to enact. That they, as individuals & an institution, are doing all they can to avoid truth & accountability is utterly despicable.
There are no police witnesses at the hearing. The Met say they're all too busy. Not only have they breached their obligation to hand over all relevant facts, police actually withdrew earlier admissions that they knew about Kennedy's relationship with Kate Wilson

It's the pattern we've seen in the 10+ years since we found out that #SpyCops existed, familiar to other victims of state wrongdoing. First they ignore it, then they may admit a little as damage limitation, but then clamp down and deny everything. It is institutional corruption.
The colossal scale of Mark Kennedy's intrusion on Kate Wilson's life was typical of the #SpyCops who deceived women into relationships. They integrated into families & are there forever in the photos of family occasions. This is Kennedy with Kate at her nan's 90th. 
The phenomenal level of spying by the #SpyCops of Britain's political secret police would be comical if it weren't so intrusive. In 2009 Mark Kennedy secretly recorded plans for a climate protest & the activists' biscuit preferences were transcribed & noted.
One of Mark Ellison QC's reviews of #SpyCops looked at a random officer & found they'd reported on 628 people who all had files.
