We are in an age of rampant journalistic malpractice. There is a reason one of the first things an invader does is seize control of the media. We can't trust that our news media is not being manipulated. See my earlier thread re: vaccine deliveries. 1/7
Our media has been seized. Harper made it possible for a conglomerate of American right-wing interests to run most of our print, radio, and online news media. 2/7
This is a quiet hostile takeover of Canadian minds & votes. When you see an opposition MP make statements & these statements are demonstrably false, but news media does not challenge, this is subversion of democracy at work. Traditionally, journalists are 1st line of defense. 3/7

"The two pharmaceutical firms were originally scheduled to deliver two million shots in the next seven days, but shipped 1.4 million of those doses last week instead in anticipation of the May long weekend." We got them EARLY. And CTV is trying to make it sound bad. WTAF?
Here is an example of how our news media (which are mostly owned by conservative interests in the US) spin the news to affect people's perceptions. 2/7
Most people only read headlines. CTV can't actually just make stuff up and pass it off as news, but they can present information in such a way as to control what a majority of people will take away from the article. 3/7

Basic tenets of journalism:
1. Is it true?
2. Is it verifiable (can you prove it's true)?
3. Is publishing it in the public good?
1. Is it true?
Truth is fact. It is not conjecture, opinion, or spin. It is empirically provable. It is not rumour or heresay or speculation. It is not driven by ideology. Reporters should report truth. This may include, "X said-, however, this research shows this is inaccurate."

So, to recap... Gov't of Alberta tore up the contract with the province's doctors and wants to reduce fees. Claims AB doctors are overpaid and doing fraudulent billing... #AbLeg #Abhealth 1/12

AB doctors asked the government to allow them to bill for meeting with their patients virtually instead of coming into offices and spreading virus. 2/12
AB Gov't reinstated billing code 03.01AD, which was created during the H1N1 epidemic. But they kept the 10+ year old rate of $20 per call. 3/12

Ottawa is a pretty small place politically. It is astonishing that journos/pundits treated the Baird potential run as normal or maybe good. You knew & you covered for him. That is unconscionable. YOU KNEW. Or you had heard rumours or more. Who thinks this is OK? I sure don't.
One has to assume that all the Canadian federal political journalist/pundit classes are on the payroll of the CPC. There is no F*ing excuse for not pointing out that a party might elect a serial predator/abuser as leader. People NEED to know this sort of thing.
I knew about Baird's proclivities out in Alberta, far from the Ottawa bubble. How the hell can #cdnmedia claim any innocence in this at all? I knew he had been accused of inappropriate behaviour. It's not about being gay, just to be clear. It's about consent or lack thereof.

Buckle up. It's a meta-thread. 1/

The first thing a conqueror does is take control of the means of mass communication. In modern times, this means mainstream media. The American right bought our broadcasters & newspapers. Harper loaded the CBC w/ supporters. Even out of power, the right controls the message. 2/
This is why, throughout the recent federal election campaign and for a long time before, the CPC has only got softball questions from journalists and the Prime Minister has been put under a magnifying glass continuously. 3/

Media Literacy: Seldom have we witnessed a federal party leader alienate so many Canadians in the opening line of a speech. Likely meant to be somewhat conciliatory, or comforting, Scheer's speech is anything but. #cdnpoli 1/25 +
As soon as he utters the words, "children of God", the hair stands up on the backs of many people's necks. Why is this, you ask? First, in a diverse, multicultural country, we don't talk a lot about faith. That's not because it is not allowed, but because the threat... 2/25
of one faith group imposing their will on other faith groups, or people who do not belong to any faith group, is ever-present in this world. Indeed, we only need look to the south to see how the lines between church and state have blurred. 3/25

Media literacy: Deconstructing political-speak. #cdnpoli
When a politician like Jason Kenney, who spent > a decade working for Stephen Harper, gets in front of a camera or microphone, you can bet that there will be no "winging it". Every word out of his mouth is deliberate.. 1/10
and thought through. There is no going off script. He knows what he wants to communicate and how he wants to communicate it. There is no accidental phrasing or memory slips. That is the first thing to keep in mind. 2/10
Here is a clip of a @CTV_PowerPlay interview about wildfires. Parsing will follow in subsequent tweets. Watch, then follow along... 3/10

Is it just me, or do others have the impression that #cdnmedia is either bought and paid for by the CPC, or intimidated by them? The #SNCLavalin coverage/speculation has gone well into the realm of mind-numbingly boring and absurd... #cdnpoli 1/16
A rumour, printed in a right-leaning newspaper, without source, which for all we know, was planted in the reporter's ear by someone in the CPC, has dominated Canadian news coverage for more than a week... 2/16
And won't #cdnmedia all look silly if it turns out to be a non-issue? Meanwhile, we have a convoy of dubious provenance that rolled across the prairies and into Ottawa and #cdnmedia all cheerfully interview them as though they know what they are talking about... 3/16
