OK, as it keeps coming up, a bit of a thread on the classification and status of White Phosphorus as a weapon. #WP #WhitePhosphorus
First, before someone jumps on me, I want to make it abundantly clear... I do not support the use of white phosphorus as a weapon. This thread is merely explaining definitions and treaties and such.
Practically every time white phosphorus (WP) is in the press, people start to call it a chemical weapon. It is not a chemical weapon. It is, depending on its usage, either a smoke("Battlefield obscurant" to be technical) or if used as a weapon, an "incendiary weapon"
