If I found out days before an election that Trudeau had conspired with a Premier to not implement life saving measures in order to secure votes for himself I would NOT vote Liberal. If I couldn’t vote for anyone else, I’d stay home.
It’s us, the voters, who get to decide whether this is okay or not. We’re in the driver’s seat here.

I’d also be all over Twitter telling all of you not to vote for him either, tbh.

You need a horse and a rider to win a race. NDPers need to understand this: the LPC is the horse. It is more important to YOUR agenda that you make sure there’s a horse for your guy to ride.

That’s #WhyLiberal

You have two separate and distinct powers in a democracy. One is your vote and the other is your party support. One (vote) needs to be wielded judiciously and strategically. The other (party support) needs to be unwavering and constant. We conflate these things. We shouldn’t.
Ultimately the question in the ballot box is “which vote will get my party closer to achieving its goals” and it might surprise you how often the answer is not “a vote for my party”.

It’s an utter embarrassment that this is a headline. #Elxn44 #WhyLiberal? Because this shouldn’t even be a question.

Which is essentially what our courts said. So how it is attacked in Canada is to reduce access and add restrictive legislation. Like “Sure you can get an abortion, I have an opening in Nunavet in 11 months, shall I book you?” stuff.
So when abortion comes up, the right wing scoffs and tells us not to worry about abortion stuff because the chances of it ever being criminalizes are very very low -which is true. Which has nothing to do at all with being ABLE to access one. That’s a genuine fear that women have.
Recently in New Brunswick the federal government had to step in because the conservative government was trying to limit abortion by limiting access. The Liberal platform contains protections in law to ACCESS abortions and penalties to provinces that try to restrict it.

I feel I should say that while I’m making direct “plot” comparisons to our current political climate and what happened in America, which I believe are rational and accurate, we are NOT America and do not have the same stressors, systems, problems, society and … worldview.
So, it’s *extremely* unlikely for us to have any sort of insurrection, as an example, and the damage to our society would play out in very different ways and our system is incredibly robust in checking the power of a PM.

O’Toole is very much NOT a Donald Trump.
My point is that we’re at a place where we can choose a pretty dangerous path that will exacerbate the cultural divide that is happening around us, playing out in a surreal scenario where people protesting a … vaccine … are affecting an election.

Remember when America elected the party that gave aid and comfort to these same sorts of people? You can go ahead and buy into the anodyne Dad routine O’Toole is pulling (which is different from his “true blue” leadership campaign) but these are his people.
And you can forget that the only way he won the leadership was to make pacts with and promises to the most odious social conservatives, anti abortions and climate deniers in our country, but he owes them now … and they WILL collect.
This is the guy who doesn’t believe we have a racism problem, that put the guy who said “Aboriginals need to learn the value of work” into his cabinet, that made a fake video about the CEO of Pfizer to scare us - scare us - about vaccines.

For those keeping track at home, if your big issue is a “return to normalcy” wrt COVID, you better hope this guy gets back in because most of those people obstructing ambulances and threatening his life: they vote CPC. I trust I don’t need to explain that to anyone. #elxn44
If you’re pissed off and tired and mentally exhausted from all the COVID stuff, I think it’s a good time to reflect on just how bad it could have been for all of us, except for these guys in the federal government. Imagine what’s happening in Alberta happening in every province.
Imagine no CERB as Poilievre suggested or businesses getting money first as O’Toole suggested. Imagine not enough vaccines and poor uptake like America whose collective consciousness was infected by conservatism via Trump.

The abortion battle is never truly settled. In Canada, anti-choice activists are using two primary tactics: 1.limiting access and 2.soft re-criminalization. Both tactics have been used recently. #cdnpoli #WhyLiberal #elexn44
The access battle is seen in New Brunswick where abortions are funded only in hospitals, and not in clinics, unlike vasectomies and similar procedures. O’Toole is fine with this. Trudeau will add guaranteed abortion access to the Cda Health Act. ctvnews.ca/politics/feder…
The second tactic, soft re-criminalization, happens via private MPs bills. The goal is to soft-sell a restriction that many will support to get a seemingly innocuous criminal law on abortion passed. It is a sneak attack that creates the opening for additional laws over time.
