1 #WIISTOTC Thank you to @WIISToronto for the opportunity to present my paper: Lost in Migration: A Critical Analysis of the Effects of EU Asylum Policies on Unaccompanied Minors. Over the next 12 tweets, I will present my research on this vulnerable population
2 #WIISTOTC First, a bit of background - Unaccompanied minors (UAMs) are asylum-seekers under 18 years old who cross international borders without a guardian present. The number of UAMs seeking asylum globally is increasing, as is literature on this phenomenon. See pic for stats:
3 #WIISTOTC International law and EU regulations afford special protections to UAMs during the asylum seeking process. However, Europol reported that more than 10,000 unaccompanied minors went missing during the refugee crisis in 2015 (Townsend 2016)

@WIISToronto @srdjanvucetic @PSCIuWaterloo 1/ We know that feminists & critical scholars like @DrLindaAhall & @EricVanRythoven argue that
understanding emotion can help us understand global politics; and that games & simulations, like those
by @Victor_Asal can be a great way to teach global politics. #WIISTOTC
2/ I wanted to see if I could get my students not just to experience feelings & emotions relevant to international security (like stress, frustration, trust/distrust, and fear) in my Intro to Global Politics, but also to articulate those feelings as learning. #WIISTOTC
3/ 2 consecutive cohorts wrote learning reflections: What did I learn? How did I learn it? Why is it
important? I analysed using NVIVO, classifying their statements by whether they said they learned
theoretical or experiential / affective concepts (& which ones). #WIISTOTC

Absolutely thrilled to be here. @WIISToronto keeps setting new intellectual and professional standards in our field, and #WIISTOTC is the outstanding case in point. With any luck, this will be the future of academic conferencing soon.
‘Canada in the UNGA from Trudeau to Trudeau’ looks at 🇨🇦’s voting record in the world's main deliberative and only universally representative body from 1980 to 2017, i.e. from the first gov’t of Trudeau le père to the first gov’t of Trudeau le fils…
The paper begins by distilling a set of hypotheses from the literature on 🇨🇦’s int'l alignment. A nutshell of nutshells: ‘continentalism’ says 🇨🇦 follows 🇺🇸, ‘Europeanism’, aka ‘Atlanticism’ points to 🇪🇺 etc, and ‘imperialism’ reminds us to pay attention to 🇬🇧 & 🇫🇷 in particular.
