We need a successful planning system for nature to recover, and to create green spaces at the heart of communities. Wildlife is still declining; the current system isnā€™t working. But we believe the proposed reforms will make a bad situation much worse. Hereā€™s why šŸ‘‡
1āƒ£ Theyā€™re highly likely to increase the decline of nature. The proposed approach offers less protection for nature than we already have, and there is little detail on how planning will help nature to recoverāš ļø
2āƒ£ They fail to bring people closer to nature. They risk the direct loss of nature-rich green spaces near where people live, restricting access to places which improve our health and wellbeingāš ļø

#Inktober catch up 31/31 #Cuckoo #inktoberredlist I had to finish off with the cuckoo, as they symbolise for me what has been called 'shifting baseline' syndrome. My 'nature' base line of growing up the UK in the 70's was full of insects, and birds.
Huge flocks of sparrows, starlings and lapwing. So many flies and insects that we needed a fly screen on the back door. Thunderbugs and ladybird swarms. The car bonnet covered in insects after a short journey. The sound of cuckoo's every Spring. Dead hedgehogs on the roads!
