While still in high school, Geiringer showed great mathematical ability. Her parents supported her financially so that she could study mathematics at the University of Vienna.

After receiving her first degree, Geiringer continued her study of mathematics in Vienna. 2/
She received her Ph.D. from the University of Vienna in 1917 under the guidance of Wilhelm Wirtinger with a thesis entitled "Trigonometrische Doppelreihen" about Fourier series in two variables. 3/

Marie Tussaud was born in Strasbourg, France. 1/
Her father was killed in the Seven Years' War just two months before Marie was born. When she was 6, her mother took her to Bern, in Switzerland. There the family moved into the home of local doctor Philippe Curtius (1741–1794), for whom Anne-Marie acted as housekeeper. 2/
Curtius, whom Marie would call her uncle, was skilled in wax modeling. He initially used this talent to illustrate anatomy, but he later used it for portraits. He moved to Paris in 1765 to establish a Cabinet de Portraits En Cire (Wax portraiture firm). 3/

Margaret Weston was born in Oakridge, Gloucestershire, and was educated at Stroud High School. During the war a German bomber crashed in the village and Margaret's father, who was also in the Home Guard, arrested the airman. 2/
Margaret Weston's degrees in mechanical and electrical engineering were from the University of London. She later acknowledged the support she was given in engineering by a neighbour, Walter Gardiner, who used to let her use his workshop and lathe. 3/
