As #India votes in the final phase of #LokSabhaElections2019, we looked at #WomensRepresentation from 1951-2014 in some states that are voting today- Bihar, UP, MP, Himachal and Rajasthan( not voting today). Except UP, the % of women MPs has declined- a worrying trend.

Over the years ECI has done a great deal to improve voter participation and make the process gender responsive
However in the context of rising misogyny and low political participation of women, ECI has not done enough to hold political parties to account
ECI has largely been a male-dominated institution. There have been 23 CECs between 1950 and 2019. Only 1 woman VS Ramadevi has held the post of CEC for 15 days between 26 Nov 1990 to 11 Dec 1990.
