Thanks to @jennirsl for this piece in the Times thetimes.co.uk/article/politi… So many women feel let down by politicians failure to listen to, respect, or act on women's concerns. Misogyny thrives to the shame of our democracy. #WomenVote

On Monday night, 100 women from the labour and trade union movement met in Brighton to discuss women's rights. An aggressive, intimidating protest tried to stop them speaking. Here is our statement #WPUKLab19 womansplaceuk.org/2019/09/26/a-w…
Police were there but their intervention was entirely inadequate. In fact, we feel they effectively facilitated the intimidation of the meeting. They did not create a sufficiently safe space for attendees to enter & exit the venue. We are submitting a formal complaint. #WPUKLab19
The organisers of @TWT_NOW posted on social media an encouragement to join the protest and repeated a slur which is entirely without foundation. Apparently, an organiser also encouraged people to attend the protest from TWT platform. We are writing to the organisers. #WPUKLab19

We have been astonished at the lies and slurs about #WPUK that are being promulgated. Sadly, it is something we have become used to: unsubstantiated accusations passed around without the bother of a fact check. We stand by our record. womansplaceuk.org/about/
We have now published a statement on events at #WPUKLab19 which we urge you to read and to share widely. It sets out the facts of what happened and shares our concerns at behaviour of 'protestors' and of the police womansplaceuk.org/2019/09/26/a-w…
We have also now published the texts of two of the speeches that were made at #WPUKLab19 - Here is Kay Green with a message for @UKLabour and its membership. We think they would do well to read it and reflect. womansplaceuk.org/2019/09/25/dea…

The footage of people banging on windows and attempting to intimidate people going into #WPUKLab19 @Womans_Place_UK meeting is upsetting. Intimidating women in this way is not respectful, constructive or democratic. I know feelings are strong, but this won't resolve anything
@Womans_Place_UK Protest is legitimate. Intimidation is not. Patriarchy and the stereotyping and discrimination imposed on us by it is the common enemy of all women, including trans women, and we are better and stronger if we try to listen to each other. I’ll carry on doing this.
I support trans rights and I support women’s rights and I support the right to peaceful protest.

Thank you to everyone who came to our meeting last night in spite of the braying mob outside the venue. Thank you to our wonderful panel for speaking up in such a hostile & intimidating environment. #WPUKLab19
Thanks to our organisers and helpers and the security team who kept us all safe when the police were content to stand by and watch. #WPUKLab19
Thank you to all the people who sent messages of support, who challenged the police to do more. Thank you to the person who left £200 behind the bar for us afterwards. 😊 #WPUKLab2019
