Developmental psychologists have known for a long time that young children have very concrete, literal, & sometimes incorrect notions about sex & gender. Now gender therapists tell us even toddlers have an innate gender ID, and they are never wrong.
45 seconds (length of this vid) is all you need. Now imagine you're a gender-atypical child. How "consistent, insistent, & persistent" might you be in claiming you are actually the opposite sex--ESPECIALLY if your gender atypicality is met w/ disapproval (or even just confusion)?
Next, imagine you've been "socially transitioned" from age 2, everyone calling you the opposite-sex pronoun and agreeing that yes, you really ARE what you say. What are the odds you'd reverse course, when the adults around you (who you look to for guidance) endorse #wrongbodyism?

Question: Certain activists & clinicians claim no one pushes young kids to believe their body is wrong. Who will do the study (with controls) investigating whether a fake penis in your undies is a factor in persistence? Quite a large cohort here.
Some day, historians will chronicle the early 21st century #WrongBodyism craze, and its impact on the demographics of gender-atypicality in future generations. And, as Dr. Eric Vilain said...
And then there's the future impact on the highly lucrative phalloplasty industry. Imagine: You're 10, you've packed a plastic penis since toddlerhood. It falls out, chafes, etc. It becomes increasingly clear it's not like the one the other boys have. Iatrogenic dysphoria, anyone?

1. THREAD. In response to our tweets about pediatric packers, a source sent us a collection of screen grabs from a Facebook group for "affirming" parents. The group has 1000s of members, including not just parents, but some therapists & trans activists.
2. The source told us there are "way too many posts about packers for little kids to capture them all. Even more about teen FTMs." We are posting here a small sampler of what she has sent us so far. Suffice it to say, penis prosthetics are a popular purchase for some parents.
3. "Peeing upright is more important than the bulge for my 6-year-old."

There's been a lot of talk about the UK organization Mermaids. But the US equivalent is Gender Spectrum, which if anything has even more influence on policy in the US (including conferences, school policy, and more). Zero coverage of this org outside our website (so far).
In this children's book "Stacey's not a girl," the narrator (a "natal" girl) talks about hating dresses and ... barrettes! This is just a variation on the Barbie/GI Joe theme pushed by Mermaids.

Most of our followers are familiar with the "barrettes" lecture by Diane Ehrensaft, a member of the Gender Spectrum board of directors.
