Alright. Since Edmonton City Council is sticking its neck out for active transportation (including bike lanes) I'm making a commitment to commute responsibly this entire year. +
Some stats: I live approx. 6km from work. I have a home office and an employer who requires me to be "in the office" 2 days per week (to teach). If I go into the office more than that, it's by choice. I love my colleagues. I'm lucky. Very lucky.+
I live in the River Valley and my workplace is uphill in the mornings (approx 21 minutes on bike). My commute home is downhill (15 minutes). +
We wonder if admin ♀️♂️ in the @CityofEdmonton's Infrastructure & @YEGclimate divisions or Urban Planning Cmtte have read this paper: "Data-driven strategies for optimal bicycle network growth" (Royal Society Open Science). royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/10.1098/rs… #yegbike #change4climate

Timing for this is ideal bc we got an offer we couldn't refuse for our van, which gives us the $ to create the optimum set up for #carfree life.
Plus, we will save $ not having a car (I'm cheap). CAA's calculator estimates $12k a year.

I've been thinking about this for a couple years, but having our 4th & realizing we don't need the van for him, plus insurance rising $900 this year despite having a clean record & being -15 on the grid, plus rising fuel costs told me this was the time.

As we get to Alberta Avenue from downtown, all we have North-South are painted lanes and sharrows. It's not giving All Ages and Abilities.
I suspect we're limited here by the narrow road width and a decision was made to protect one lane of street parking.

At 119 Ave, we arrive at a 'Two-Way Separated Bike Lane on Right-Side of Two-Way Street.' Just like the Garsconastrasse or Oliverbahn (we're going to rename that right?), this route is quite popular.
