#NoisePollution Tweetstorm ahead: Consider the noise levels at your favorite gym/workout studio to make sure you're not harming your ears while improving your fitness... 1/6

Since I've been reporting on noise pollution at Vox, I've been shocked by how loud many of our everyday environments are, how quickly they imperil our ability hear. vox.com/2018/4/18/1716… 2/6

This fantastic study from Boston found the same: a single 45-minute indoor cycling class had nine times the recommended noise exposure for an eight-hour workday — and sounds so loud they could damage your hearing within minutes onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.10… 4/6

A plea for #citizenscience and #publichealth: Check the noise levels around you, and at your gym, using a decibel reading app and take a screenshot of the decibel reading. Send my way or use the hashtag #VoxNoisePollution. 5/6

You can also do the same thing at restaurants/bars & submit to an app like @SoundPrintapp. Make owners/operators of noisy places aware of the harm they are doing. Once we lose hearing, we can't get it back. Prevention is key! vox.com/science-and-he… 6/6
