1- For Iran to close the Strait, it means occupation and the taking over of Oman's waters where most of ships go through. This will immediately invoke the defense pact of the GCC: it means war among all.

3- Iran's friends will be hurt more than its enemies by the closure of the Strait of #Hormuz. Especially that its enemies do not import from Iran, and there are two underutilized pipelines that circumvent the the Strait.

4- Any problems that Iran might cause in the Gulf will revive the idea of reopening the Iraq-Red Sea pipeline via Saudi Arabia and focus on the one through Jordan. In a sense, any trouble Iran makes in the Gulf will make the #Hormuz strait less strategic, oil-wise.
5- In conclusion, the Iranian government needs the rhetoric for domestic consumption as they have been doing since 1979. Why will they lose their friends and lose the only pressure card they have: the Hormuz strait?
