First, PTA means Parent-Teacher Association, but let's be honest, by parent, they really mean mom. There were 2 dads in the cafeteria this morning and 1 was @tuckerdrob (2/n)
Big discussion item: cafeteria monitors! Because you can't have a cafeteria full of 6-year-olds w/ no one to watch them. Evidently #AISD cut the budget for cafeteria monitors to help cover a $13 million dollar shortfall (3/n)
There used to be people who did that job for $7.25 / hour (seriously, WTF) but they were fired with no notice. Shame on us, people. (4/n)
So now they are asking parents (moms) to volunteer to spend hours per day opening yogurts and passing out napkins. And it's great if you want to volunteer to help your kid's school! But ... (5/n)
Why do so many affluent ladies with advanced graduate degrees have hours in the middle of the day to volunteer? Maybe b/c balancing high-intensity mothering with cognitively demanding work will make you want to cry on a daily basis, and so women end up quitting? (6/n)
The whole system is just so so so f'ed up. Go to your PTA meetings, folks, for your monthly dose of outrage. (7/7)
