In the last week of September, Yengkhom Ibomcha, a Human Rights Defender from #Manipur, received a threatening phone call from an inspector who is currently serving in the Manipur Police. 1/6
Ibomcha had shared a chargesheet from an investigation conducted by the Central Bureau of Investigation in a case of an extrajudicial execution in Manipur on a WhatsApp group. This chargesheet named the said inspector. 2/6
The inspector asked Ibomcha to apologise for circulating the message or face dire consequences. He even called the court ordered CBI investigation "illegal". 3/6
Ibomcha is a member of Extrajudicial Execution Victim Families Association Manipur (EEVFAM). He is not the first HRD from EEVFAM who has been intimidated. @AIIndia has been campaigning for accountability for reprisals against many HRDs from EEVFAM. bit.ly/SupportEEVFAM 4/6
In July this year, we met @NBirenSingh and he personally assured us that attacks against HRDs would not be tolerated. Despite this, Ibomcha was intimidated by the local police. Do your promises mean nothing, @NBirenSingh? 5/6
@NBirenSingh we again urge you to investigate the threats against Yengkhom Ibomcha and ensure that those responsible are held to account. HRDs should be able to work in a safe and enabling environment in #Manipur.
