Final day of #HumanistsIceland events, and delegates are gathering for the Humanists International General Assembly 2019. Take your seats we will begin shortly...

President @andrewcopson welcomes delegates. Outlines how the organization has been growing, and notes that this is the first General Assembly under our new brand: a pledge from last year fulfilled! #HumanistsIceland

We are proud to be a democratic organization governed by people elected by our membership. Our current Board introduce themselves to the room, including members from Uganda, Nepal, Norway, Guatemala, America, Netherlands, Belgium, and United Kingdom. humanists.international/about/our-peop…

New Full and Associate Member Organizations approved by the General Assembly. Welcome to 21 new members from around the world! #HumanistsIceland

We have heard a presentation by the staff giving an insight into the Annual Report which you can read here: drive.google.com/uc?export=down…

A special mention at #HumanistsIceland for Ineke de Vries former director of @humanverbond who has been dedicated to the humanist movement, returning to action after a serious illness and now serves on the board of @EU_Humanists.

Voting delegates have unanimously passed the Reykjavik Declaration on the Climate Change Crisis, which we will publish soon. This has been drafted and consulted on among our membership over several months, and will form the basis of our policy position on the environment.

The General Assembly has approved proposed changes to our membership structure designed to increase democratic participation from historically underrepresented regions and to enfranchise - as Individual Members - people in the most hostile counties.

We'll publish the changes during an implementation period in due course. You can read more about membership and find our existing Member Organizations at: humanists.international/about/our-memb…

We're now ducking out as the General Assembly begins electing Board members for three open places.

Congrats to our new and returning Board members who will be announced soon. Now hearing from current Board member Rebecca Hale from @americnhumanist on next year's World Humanist Congress in Miami, Florida. 6-10 August 2020. Registration opens 1 October at americanhumanist.org/whc2020/

In closing remarks, our Vice-president Anne-France Ketalaer thanks the GA for their participation, in particular for passing the Reykjavik Declaration on the Climate Change Crisis which we hope sparks a new emphasis on environmental policy and campaigns. #HumanistsIceland
