1/ Climate change scientist Maria Caffrey today told a House committee that @natlparkservice supervisors pressured her to remove every reference to humans causing climate change from a report on future flooding at parks.

2/ “We’re shortchanging our future generations by denying science right now,” she said.

Listen to @Dr_Caffrey’s whole saga here: revealnews.org/episodes/silen…

3/ Caffrey is a climate change scientist who led research projecting rising sea levels and storm surges for the National Parks Service.

Last year, @shogrenE broke the story about efforts to censor Caffrey’s work. revealnews.org/article/wipeou…

4/ All mentions of human impacts on climate change were removed from Caffrey’s drafts, and the report’s release was delayed for many months.

“It’s very important that we keep the politics out of our data,” she said in today’s hearing.

5/ When it was first released, our story spurred Democrats in Congress to call for an investigation into scientific integrity at @Interior.

Park service officials eventually agreed to publish Caffrey’s original text, uncensored. revealnews.org/blog/national-…

6/ Earlier this year, Caffrey, who worked under a contract with the National Parks Service, lost her job after pushing back against the censorship.

“I’m doing this because we need more protection for federal scientists,” Caffrey said today.

7/ The hearing also featured Joel Clement, who left Trump’s Interior Department after he was pointedly reassigned from the department’s top climate change advisor to managing oil and gas receipts.

8/ Clement told the hearing his work focused on Alaskan communities that are “one big storm away from being wiped off the map.”

He also talked to host @al_letson in a recent episode. revealnews.org/episodes/behin…

9/ Today’s hearing was part of a larger effort by House Democrats to draw attention to climate change – and their concerns that the Trump administration is ignoring and suppressing climate change science.

10/ We used data from the report to create interactive maps that show how climate change could be disastrous for many coastal national parks.

Take a look at the projected impact here:
