"I’m positive that many of the ways I continue to be “sexy” are heavily influenced by misogyny. But it feels good to me, and it’s my damn choice, right?" harpersbazaar.com/culture/featur…
SMH @ this essay. oh boy
i would be very interested in an essay from Emily Ratajkowski on how her being a sex symbol has affected her life! esp around that Blurred Lines video
but this....is not it. this is not it at all
of course it's Emily's choice to be "hyperfemme" or to flaunt her sexiness....but wshe's entirely missing the larger context; sexiness is still very much a demand placed on women
i don't doubt that she has been slutshamed, or not taken seriously because she's so pretty/sexy
but that doesn't mean the culture doesn't valorize female prettiness, or female performance
ugh anyway these kinds of essays are so messy because they stay blurring a whole bunch of issues. but what do i expect from fashion magazines i guess
