Bradd Witt @UQ_sees work on community #trust in the #beef cattle industry. Biggest survey of its kind in Oz to date (~3000 responses) #agchatoz #sociallicense

Bradd + team found very strong postive link between utilitarian attitude towards environment and view that less regulation is better; diet less so

Overall, perceptions of trust had very low influence on attitudes around need for industry regulation

Factor analysis found 6 distinct groups of survey respondents: biggest (35%) high level of trust in industry, omnivorous diet, but need convincing on environmental performance

Key point is that underlying *values* (e.g political orientation) has a v strong influence on attitudes. Implications for communication (deficit model won't necessarily work)

Witt: Geography does NOT drive attitudes, it is underlying values. The urban-rural divide dichotomy is inaccurate and unhelpful
