Just wanted to post a little something about this week's Black Power Rankings and some of the responses we get in general - a quick thread
theroot.com/castro-gives-t…

@Marcus4America often says that most campaigns don't know how to campaign to black folks 52 weeks out of the year. They can do holidays, special events, even a crisis but steady black oriented policy? Most don't have the bandwidth

@Marcus4America Part of the motivation behind @TheRoot Black Power Rankings is to assess, every week what campaigns actually DOING FOR BLACK PEOPLE every week. What we've learned? Most aren't doing anything. At least not compared to how they target white women, men & certain economic groups

@Marcus4America @TheRoot Consider there isn't one 2020 Democratic who doesn't have dozens of policies and speeches they give addressing women's needs each week. That's a good thing. But do they give speeches addressing black women's needs? Nope. Addressing voter protection? Nope. Not even close

@Marcus4America @TheRoot Despite what the angry twitter trolls say @TheRoot Black Power Rankings are in regular contact with just about every 2020 campaign. We SPECIFICALLY ask for black oriented policies each week. Most offer 'general policy' & try to explain why that's beneficial to black people

@Marcus4America @TheRoot To be fair, 2020 campaigns also appreciate the Power Rankings because often black organizations & what's left of black media DON'T hold them regularly accountable on black policy in ways that are measurable. @TheRoot Power Rankings help with that

@Marcus4America @TheRoot After this Friday's rankings (Week 8) @TheRoot we're taking a quick break and re-tooling for the fall campaign season. The hope is that 2020 candidates realize that showing up won't be enough next year for black voters. You have to be consistent, and persistent for 52 weeks
