This article describes recent efforts of some researchers to revise unethical scientific practices to respect Indigenous life & authority. but we still struggle against a the colonial foundation underlying this & other fields & against the public embrace of colonial science.
When people say #ElizabethWarren's multigenerational lie of Cherokee ancestry is not a real issue, that her DNA test & the Indigenous
appropriation its built on and further supports isn't a real issue, they show their ignorance of the situation. It's complicated, no doubt.
This is why listen experts on her case. It's complex. We bring together 3 complex knowledges: Cherokee history, incl allotment policies; history & politics of science; & settler colonial theory. This is why we think collectively. We're not just "people on Twitter." We're experts.
p.s. not to disrespect the people doing good analysis on twitter, be they academics, reporters, artists, activists etc. People in community do incisive intellectual work & in my world they do that out loud in real time on Twitter. Us doing this here doesn't make it less relevant.
