JP crowdfunding watch: the developer of HORGIHUGH, the horizontal STG for PC with music by former Konami man Motoaki Furukawa & chara designs by Shantae/Inti Creates illustrator KOU, wants to remake the game in Unity for Switch makuake.com/project/pixel/🇯🇵 ¥2m goal, 55 days remain
the story behind Horgihugh is cute: after the 2011 earthquake, the author took custody of a 16-year old dog named Huga on behalf of its owners who had to evacuate, and upon returning Huga the two families became close friends
one of the members of Huga's family was an 8yo boy(>)
who took a shine to the author due to his love of retro games, so the author promised to make him a game starring Huga; it was only meant to be a simple app game but after seeing how excited the boy was every time he'd visit, he decided he should try to make something bigger(>)
the author reached out to composer Furukawa for music; Furukawa had been affected by and performed benefits for earthquakes in the past, and the boy was familiar with Gradius, so it made sense
he was eventually able to put out a packaged version for PC, but it wasn't really(>)
convenient for him to play, and when the author was featured on TV showing the game the boy missed it, so one of the big motivating factors behind the Switch version is being able to deliver the game in a form that the boy will actually be able to properly play
for reference, the PC version came out on Steam a little while ago, it's a fairly relaxed game and therefore not really my thing but I'm sure it'll find an audience on Switch
