Imagine the boost to Nigeria’s image if the fraudsters were caught in Nigeria by Nigerian law enforcement and hundreds of millions returned? To me that’s the *real* damage - that Americans have had to do it. It’s the same damage from Malabu. Unspoken but it’s there

Think about Malabu. An unprecedented scandal. Yet everything we know about that case has been from foreign courts and foreign media. Nigeria is one giant unlooking game.

How about the Siemens scandal? Remember that these law enforcement agencies are probably under budget constraints and have to take time away from local crimes to deal with B😎SS IFF¥ and Ologbo in Lekki 1.

Long term, Nigeria is acquiring the image of a place where criminality goes on unchecked and someone external has to step in to clean up the mess or else it doesn’t get cleaned up. That’s the *real* damage. And I will admit I don’t know how you fix it

It’s not that all Nigerians are criminals - most people can work out that one even if they stereotype and there are enough Nigerians abroad to disprove that anyway. It is that Nigeria is a place that criminality is *tolerated*. That is incredibly incredibly damaging
